My Story

Laith has Cerebral Palsy which affects all four limbs as well as his speech (dysarthria), making it difficult for his speech to be understood by those unfamiliar to him.

Laith has used high-tech AAC since the age of five to augment his speech, giving him a voice to communicate with anyone he meets. As such technologies change and improve over time, like all users, Laith has had to adapt his understanding, usage and skills regarding AAC and AT, meaning he has a thorough and personal understanding of the experiences and needs of his clients and had a deep empathic understanding for the barriers they may face.

Laith’s primary AAC used is GridPad; he also uses a PC and iPad daily for all manner of tasks and activities.

Laith has delivered presentations at leading conferences such as Communication Matters and delivers high quality training packages to care teams, parents, and educational establishments. Laith has also worked as a AAC mentor for ATtherapy, having mentored children and young people who have a range of different AAC skills and experiences.

Laith has sat on the IUK Smartbox and Speak Unique AAC Advisory boards and has been a valued member of the Communication Matters AAC advisory board for 4 years, as well as involvement with several projects with Manchester Metropolitan University regarding the evolution of AAC.
